Looks like GNE have the Yutong double decker on demo for the 21.
Pelican Bus & Coach Yutong U11DD YD73FTP is currently at Go North East Riverside Depot and is seen resting in Durham Bus Station on 12 January 2024.

One hopes the seats are comfier than the last electric demo!
RE: Yutong Demo
Must say I'd love to see the 'design' team for Yutong as it really feels like it's a Chinese knockoff design of the Enviro 400 City that, and a bad one at it aswell. The front is a right mess.
The single decker version GNE has, is also rather similar to MAN Ecocity Darlington had, but they got away with that one as barely anyone bought them.

They won funding for 17? new buses for the 21.
Although not sure how much GNE have to put towards it.

Edit: note the number for the deckers for the 21 is wrong, Dan confirmed that.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
RE: Yutong Demo
I believe the Yutong design came before the ADL Enviro 400EV, however I have seen a similar design on buses in France. https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2179151981
RE: Yutong Demo
On close inspection. Are they camera wing mirrors?
Absolutely unsuitable for the 21, wing mirror issues is a prerequisite to be allocated to the Angel

RE: Yutong Demo
With the door open, the front looks paper thin, looks like some Photoshopping (or if done by GNE, GIMPing) involved?

Aye the EV is quite new, the City has been around for near 10 years now though. It's too similar in parts for me for their not to be some stealing (inspiration). The black curve at the back, front window and the general whole side of the bus are pretty much near identical.

These are quite old tho to be fair, paint it in Angel green and they look absolutely horrific, the Singapore ones which are near identical (some changes since they're tri axle) are pretty much that - https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=4131763003530809&set=a.4131762840197492
RE: Yutong Demo
Are the staff trying to see how many can get out of doing work for the day by taking a trip to Durham?
Surely it doesn't take 5-6 (in the picture alone) staff to make sure it can get to Durham and back?
No wonder the company is in the state it's in if that's what the (I'm assuming) office staff are spending their days doing.

Is Pelican part of the Go Ahead Group or are random triangles for logos just the new in thing across the board?

They aren't all GNE staff

You'll instead get instances where the camera screens aren't working though, so swings and roundabouts!

Bit of an odd one! I'm surprised they didn't ask the cleaner along too.
I hope they never have a light bulb go out at Bensham. It'll tie the whole team up changing it...

I would guess that some of the people are from Pelican (the Yutong agent) assisting with familiarisation, some could be engineers and others from driver training.

They could be, but obviously the GNE "Systems Assistant" was on board judging by a post on Twitter.
In your examples, surely it's a bit of a waste of an engineers time? They should know the bus is capable of doing the 21 (otherwise literally what is the point), and a run without passengers will yield limited useful data in comparison to the days of service work it will do. Familiarisation should be easily doable around the depot too. From the outside looking in it just looks like folk have fancied a day out, which is not very productive of them...
