They suggest taking public transport but forget to mention that, if you're travelling to Newcastle, you'll find the bus station closed for the first week of disruption.

Or the tiny bus lane now being open to traffic.

If I was GNE I’d seriously consider cutting Low Fell out and running the X21 via A1

It’s not like most of the services are actually going to reach Newcastle anywho. I can see ALOT of Gateshead terminators

Which is an absolute pain in the arse for getting back.

Very occasional passenger: Where does my bus back to Durham leave from?
Regular passenger: it doesn't.

I like how there saying "we will fund a shuttle bus during these works"

Like it'll be interesting see how often it runs and who runs it and how it'll work
RE: Gateshead Flyover Closures
It’s good they’ve publicised the changes early but most of the comments are asking about buses, really GNE and Gateshead should have released a joint statement at the same time

If only there was say a light rail system connecting Gateshead with Newcastle, that had a bunch of extra rolling stock recently introduced that could run an enhanced service through the core whilst this was happening.

It wouldn’t solve anything. You still have the problem of getting to interchange from the South and East of Gateshead unless you change to heworth

And if only it allowed you to transfer with your single ticket for the bus, instead of having to pay extra to make your normal journey.

Easier said than done. Are you pulling the extra drivers out of thin air?

Sorry if this sounds harsh

But thats pathetic response to customers

People need to plan these things in advance and GNE response is to say "yea u can wait till next week cant you"

Thats a company saying that they would rather sit and watch people be mad at them

Why not do it straight away when the works were announced. They did it with Eldon Square being announced as closed as the post was put up the same day (if I remember)

So why wait until next week to tell your customers this is whats happening with your services then to sort it out straight away

It depends if GoNorthEast knew about it beforehand. The Eldon Square stuff was done in partnership with the operators.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if GoNorthEast found out the same day that we found out about the closures and they didn't actually and still don't have a plan yet. It wouldn't be the first time.

Note that Arriva, Nexus and Stagecoach haven't mentioned anything yet about it either.

Stagecoach have they posted it yesterday obviously saying it doesn't impact the X24/X24A/X34 but it will.more than likely make there services late due to traffic. They also said this

Bus operators, Nexus and Gateshead Council have been in discussions about mitigation measures throughout this closure (and the upcoming Park Lane closure later in the Summer), including encouraging private traffic to avoid the area and use other Tyne Crossings. Nevertheless, we are expecting severe delays to Service X24, X24A and X34, particularly during peak times. Our control room teams will do their best to minimise disruption, however we urge customers to leave more time for their journey, especially if they are heading into Gateshead and Newcastle in the morning rush hour.

It's not possible with the way the roundabout at the bottom of Sunderland Road, Old Durham Road and Durham will be closed to facilitate demolition works of the flyover as I believe they will also be demolishing the 5 Footbridges that connects all the road for pedestrians which is why they've made it a one way loop. All other services that come down Old Durham Road are turning left at Shipcote Road/Shipcote Terrace then right onto Durham Road in order to avoid the roundabout.

It does make you wonder though could Gateshead Council of made a temporary road layout maintaining the connection between Sunderland Road and Durham Road as I did think they doing that last week when I passed on the bus as they were taking out the triangular island at the bottom of Old Durham Road.

The Old Durham Rd services are going down valley drive not Shipcote (which they did do during previous closures)

The whole area is set up as a worksite, there’s no way they could have maintained a link without impacting the pace of demolition
