Tyne Bridge Works 2023-27 (ish)

Oh wait...

Tbf I don't think there's a huge correlation. Anyone in that area would use the tunnel anyway to get across the and there'll be a replacement bus service - the metro can be like a ghost town in the suburbs during commuting at half term

Half term is the easiest time to do this with mininal impact - if it was say Heworth to Monument, yes you'd be crazy but don't think this one is an issue

On that note - integrated ticketing - allow passengers to connect at Heworth or Gateshead and use the Metro

Without having to pay extra for the inconvenience.

Oh I don't know you know, the Metro between North Shields and St James is a busy part of the route really. They might not be crossing the Tyne Bridge but there's a fair chunk of population there needing to move. The 22/301 which are arguably the alternative services are going to be completely slammed and very heavily impacted by the bridge closures as they're going to have to get across Central which is fun on the best of days really.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wallsend ends up grinding to a halt at times as nothing is getting in as it's all stuck in Newcastle, like realistically I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole Newbridge Street / Byker Bridge area grind to a halt as it won't take long for Swan House to back up onto Newbridge Street.

(I'd agree if it was just the Coast though tbf).

They've now updated the website with a slight tweak and some garish red colour

Service X24/X24A and X34 trips heading towards Newcastle will operate a variety of routing options to maintain reliability - most likely to be via the Tyne Tunnel and A1058 Coast Road or the Swing Bridge. Note that in Newcastle services will terminate/start from the opposite side to normal on Pilgrim Street on Stop NC71 between Tesco Express and Greggs). Any customers requiring Gateshead will be allowed to remain on the vehicle and travel on the return journey towards South Shields or Sunderland.

Services X24/X24A/X34 heading towards South Shields or Sunderland will depart from Pilgrim Street stop NC71 and will then operate via Market Street, Grainger Street, Bigg Market, Groat Market, St. Nicholas' Street, High Level Bridge, Askew Road, A184, Gateshead Interchange, picking up and setting down at Stand D, then will operate via High Street West, Charles Street then normal routes.

Arriva have confirmed X12 will go via Swing or Redheugh

Interesting choice to not have the X21 and X1 serve Newcastle. 21 can barely cope with loadings now, even at half term

I personally don't understand why the 27 and 57 are running through. Everyone on those routes can change at Heworth to get to Newcastle which will be negligible anyway (for the 27 and 57 beyond Heworth).

Cutting the infrequent services is piss poor imo, it's all good saying get a bus 10 minutes earlier, but those people won't appreciate waiting around for 25/55 minutes in Gateshead when they miss their connection because you aren't doing that in 10 minutes.

That's before the lack of Metro integration, at all.
RE: Tyne Bridge Works 2023-27 (ish)
The GNE app is absolutely at its most peak useless self

Rather than update services, it still shows the curtailed services going to Newcastle. When you then click on, say Stand F, at Eldon Square it shows the 28s and X21s as Cancelled - appearing that they're running to town but service is cancelled

and the only active service update is the Stand B in Bishop being closed.

Only if you access from the home. Mine opens up at favourites and stops. I never access the homepage

It effectively is, at that point, just like a Brandon 21 curtailed at CLS would show up as cancelled in Durham.
RE: Tyne Bridge Works 2023-27 (ish)
From what I witnessed in Eldon Square today, GNE have made a grave error in judgement about not running more stuff into Newcastle. At one point the queue for the 21 was out of the top end of the bus station blending in with the queues for other Gateshead services. Felt sorry for those that couldn’t board the bus they needed home because it was full with those heading to Gateshead. Unrelated but the 16:10 X10 left people at Gateshead having come in with a full standing load. Piss poor performance all round
