Am I missing something here.

Aren't service suggestions supposed to be just that, suggestions of new services and not suggestions of old withdrawn services reintroduced

Not having a go at you here ASX, just noticed a lot of your suggestions tend to be previous services

I know you have suggested a lot of services previously under the guise of new operators, which I'd like to see, but I think you need to move on from resurrecting old services.

Quick question, how many heliports are located in the North East. Could you build them everywhere and create a flying taxi/rideshare network.

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Just a few suggestions regarding several routes around Gateshead & Washington, which looks at the lesser used routes to try and improve usage & offer some new connections too.

8: With the introduction of Service X78 & 83, this service would be reduced in frequency to every 60 minutes daily.

22: Evening and Sunday journeys will be reintroduced for this service between Gateshead and Wrekenton only.

37: This service is withdrawn & merged with Service 83.

67: This service is proposed to be withdrawn between QE Hospital and Wardley, parts of this section of route are replaced by Service 82. However, daytime links between Wardley and Metrocentre will be maintained through adjustments made to service 92.

69: This service is proposed to be withdrawn between QE Hospital and Wardley & replaced by Service 82. However, daytime links between Wardley and Blaydon/Winlaton will be maintained through adjustments to service 92.

NEW X78: This new express service will introduce faster journey times between Consett and Sunderland, with the idea of this benefiting people making longer distance journeys, aswell as faster links to popular destinations such as Beamish, Washington Galleries & Waterview Park from places that currently don't have those fast transport links.

The service will only call into Beamish Museum during the times when it is open to the public, otherwise journeys will bypass Beamish via the A693.

(Consett | Nonstop | Stanley Bus Station | Beamish Museum* | A693 | Chester-le-Street | Nonstop | Washington Galleries | Peel A1231 Slip Road | Waterview Park | A1231/A19 | Hastings Hill | Chester Road | Royal Hospital | Sunderland Interchange)

81: Service would be withdrawn & replaced by increase in journeys on service 82.

The section of route between Sunderland and Waterview Park is withdrawn without replacement, although service 8 will continue to provide coverage on this section of route.

The section of route between Wrekenton and Gateshead is replaced by an increase in journeys on service 22.

82: This service is revised to operate daily from morning till night, with a new extension to Wardley to replace the section of route on service 69.

The single journey on the 82A is withdrawn, without replacement.

All journeys will serve Heworth Interchange to open up new links to Birtley.

Only Mon - Sat daytime journeys will serve Ravensworth Road and Lansbury Drive in Birtley, aswell as Kirkwood Gardens in Wardley.

(Waterview Park | Teal Farm | Barmston Court | Washington Village | Washington Galleries | Barmston | Ayton | Barley Mow | Portmeads | Birtley | Ravensworth Road | Lansbury Drive | Wrekenton High Street | QE Hospital | Felling Square | Heworth Interchange | Fewster Square | Kirkwood Gardens | Wardley Turning Circle)

NEW 83: This service will operate between Doxford Park Shops and Coach Road Estate, similar to the original 37 route, although the service will additionally cover Washington Village and Barmston Court.

This service will combine with service 82 to offer two buses per hour between Washington, Barmston Court, Teal Farm and Waterview Park.

(Doxford Park Shops | Doxford International | East Herrington | Herrington Burn | Shiney Row | Biddick Woods | Washington Galleries | Washington Village | Barmston Court | Teal Farm | Waterview Park | Peel Retail Park | Sulgrave | Concord | Coach Road Estate)

84/85: These services will no longer serve Coach Road Estate, with new service 83 revised to cover this section.

90: The single journey on this service would be withdrawn & replaced by an improved daytime service 92, which will incorporate services & help maintain links.

91: This service would be withdrawn & replaced by extensions on services 93/94 to offer daytime links between Team Valley and Newcastle.

92: This service is revised to operate as a frequent hourly service during Monday to Saturday daytimes.

This new service will run between Wardley and Winlaton, offering new links between Metrocentre and Team Valley Retail Park, aswell as offering additional buses to different parts of Eastern & Western Gateshead.

(Winlaton | Blaydon Bus Station | Metrocentre Interchange | Dunston, Ellison Road | Bensham, Victoria Road | Team Valley North End | Team Valley Retail Park | Harlow Green | Wrekenton High Street | Springwell Village | Fewster Square | Wardley Kirkwood Gardens | Wardley Turning Circle)

93/94: All journeys heading direct to Team Valley will commence from Newcastle during Monday to Saturday Daytimes.

93s from Team Valley are extended to Newcastle via Gateshead.
94s towards Team Valley via Gateshead will commence from Newcastle.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
6/6A - Stanley - Newcastle via Tanfield Lea, Burnopfield, Sunniside, Fellside Park, Whickham and Metrocentre
Service curtailed at Stanley, new 6A introduced with services merged with 643/644, would still serve MetroCentre Asda on route to Whickham. Also had a thought of potentially interworking these with the 8 Stanley-Sunderland but I am not sure it would work.

X30 - Lanchester - Burnhope, South Moor, Stanley, East Stanley, Sunniside, Whickham and Dunston
Replaces the 6 in extending to Lanchester.

X31 - Durham - Newcastle via Sacriston, Graghead, South Moor, Stanley, East Stanley, Sunniside, Whickham and Dunston
Merged with 16A at Stanley.
X32 - Durham - Newcastle via Sacriston, Graghead, South Moor, Stanley. East Stanley, Sunniside, Lobley Hill and Gateshead
Merged with 16A at Stanley.

Existing frequencies on all above services would be maintained.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Remeber all three number nine journeys

Old old 9 Boldon ASDA (or somewhere like that) Jarrow-Murton
Old 9 Sunderland Park Lane-North Shields Transport Hub
Normal 9 Sunderland Park Lane-Jarrow

What if we could make a 9A Sunderland Park Lane-Jarrow
9B Jarrow or Boldon ASDA-Murton Cenothaph

All ran by GNE but late night journeys on 9B are Northstar and early morning journeys are operated by GCT
9A operated by GNE all day

I would honestly like to see Go North East make the Sunday Marsden extension on the 50 a 7 day a week extension for the Summer 6 Week period. Ever since they introduced it 4 years ago I'm suprised they never considered doing it.

X19 Service

Runs hourly with no cuts allowing service UTTC Easington Lane - Newton Aycliffe Industrial to withdraw

UTTC runs once in each direction a day while X19 runs hourly

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Lots of new ones

1. 503 South Shields -> Wardley

Gives 7 day access to Monkton Business Park due to 960 and 568 only being Monday to Friday

Similar route to the 27 until a turnoff at Tyne Dock

Access to Bill Quay from South Shields and to areas like Pelaw Hedworth Primrose Simonside and Fellgate

Has little to no overlays on weekends and even weekdays eg:Bill Quay would be this service and 515

2. ZX1 Stanhope -> Newcastle

If we can send buses out to Bishop Auckland and Middlesbrough we can send a bus to at least the Pennines near Consett

Would be amazing for people that live in the pennines to visit Newcastle

3. Coach 887 Newcastle -> Falstone

Good access to day trips out to Kielder Forest

Similar to the X18 until a turnoff at North Brunton Interchange

Long distance but limited stops for quicker travel

A spinoff 887A will be in its place on weekends , similar to the 74 unitl a turnoff at Stagshaw Roundabout

4. White Mare Pool Service Station Loop

Used to get to work at Boldon Business Park , 4 runs in the morning at 5:00 6:00 6:40 and 7:00 and 3 runs in the afternoon 15:50 16:30 and 17:10

Service also serves Boldon Rectory Bank North Road and Boldon Asda

On Weekends extended to Cleadon Pond for weekend workers

To be continued will add more soon

The 352 most the time ended up duping the 37. I did the 352 a lot and it was dead most if not all the time. Evening the peak time in the afternoon is dead now

I'm surprised they never made the 353 every 30 minutes and binned off the 354 in the process personally. Unless it's changed very recently the unique section is constantly dead and it's not really a supporting service since the unique bit is well outside of GNE's operating area. The 19/356 doing the bit around Backworth these days.
RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
Will add eventuallly , the other suggestions don't evwn have a chance of coming through and i've thought of all possibilities and im still going , these are the ones so far

New idea 1 : 42R East Boldon Metro - West Boldon - Hindmarch Drive Estate - Boldon Colliery - Testos -  Downhill Interchange - HMRC Waterview Park

3 Am runs from East Boldon at 07:15 08:15 and 09:00

The morning 9 am run can also help people living in Barmston get to other areas in the morning , since the 84 and 85 im pretty sure dont run till later on.

3 pm runs from Waterview Park at 15:30 16:30 and 17:10

Later runs can help people get back from areas like Boldon Colliery , East and West Boldon , and even Testos to link with East Washington

New idea 2 : BP1 Metrocentre - Oaklands Garden Centre - Winlaton Mill - Medomsley - Derwentside IRC

runs hourly until these times but at 16:00

Metrocentre Interchange 07:00
Oaklands Garden Centre  07:07
Winalton Mill Noel Av        07:11
Longclose Bank                 07:18
Medomsley                         07:20
Derwentisde IRC                07:24

Good for IRC workers of all shifts

Used so GCT doesnt need to extend the R3/R4/R5 and I think an R6 to the Metrocentre (The R2 is ran by GNE)

Good if you dont want to use the x's or the 47 towards Consett

New idea 3 : 357 Rosehill of licence - Battle Hill Drive Coast Road Turnoff - Silverlink Interchange - Holystone Roundabout - Northumberland Park Interchange

Made like the R2 , for people to get from there Estate or Village Front Street and Back

Good convieniance due to it being a short route

The first actual short route at Northumberland Pk Interchange

I swear there was a GNE bus also at Northumber Pk Interchange , but for some reason google maps only says the 19 stops there

A few things.....

I drive, walk, and cycle past Oaklands Garden Centre quite regularly (also at different times of the day), and I've never seen a great deal of traffic going in and out of the place. Furthermore, there are no bus stops located directly outside Oaklands with the nearest being either Swalwell Roundabout or Axwell Hall depending on the direction of travel, so I'm not sure how it can be used as a timing point or a notable sub-destination for the route.

I also pass Derwentside IRC quite regularly, and aside from the odd demonstration, you never see anyone going in and out of there either. The X71 also passes on an hourly basis and runs to both Newcastle and Consett, so I'm not sure of the benefits of running an hourly service which specifically terminates there.

IMO, but the 353 via High Pit (serving NSECH) and extended to Morpeth in place of the 43 would be the better option. That's a major link provided to a good chunk of North Tyneside & Northumberland.

Summer Service like the 300
514- South Shields Interchange-Seham via River Drive (Sunderland bound) , Sea Road, Coast Road (A183), Whitburn, Seaburn, Roker, Sunderland, Hendon Ivor Street, B1287, Seaham return
As above from Seaham to Sunderland, stop near the railway station, then Roker Avenue, then as above from Seaburn to Coast Road/Sea Road then South Shields Interchange

Didn't there used to be a Seaham to South Shields route many years ago? I seem to remember branded MPDs, possibly service 37? I can't remember the route though.

It was the 37A same route as the 35/36 between Sunderland and South Shields, the now  150 at seaham was numbered as 37

RE: Go North East: Service Suggestions v2
What about extending/ altering the 301 service Metrocentre- Whitley Bay

After leaving gateshead Interchange towards Metrocentre - head to Team Valley instead of turning right at the bottom continue along Team Valley like the 93/94 service do a mini divert via one of the avenues to stop next to the mcd at Team Valley. (Less face it the Team Valley bus station is like it it is from cold war era!) Then head to A1 loop into Sainsbury Team Valley bus stop (omit the stop one hour after (closure) or Sunday after 6pm etc using common sense then up the A1 onto its current route and vice versa in the opposite direction

Why and what are the benefits? You may ask...

Quite a few... we all know it is a slow bus every passenger knows it is a slow bus but it is a vital bus connecting areas that don't really have a service

Which is one of the reasons it is good to use this service to create additional links

For the seasoned generation this is the modern 638 visit everywhere...

Putting the service along Team Valley services all the stops for workers but gives a "regular" direct link" from Newcastle City Centre

We also have Gateshead College there and the retail park with Home Bargains opening up soon.

I did consider diverting an X service but thought against it as it was long enough from Stanley at present

The links create a work service, a regular service for leisure (shopping at Team Valley) Sainsbury has a link for shopping but most of all workers have a regular direct link to Newcastle City Centre (abit via Gateshead Interchange) but we also create a regular link to Whickham and Team Valley.

Potentially with franchising we could actually save some work service buses money contracts by tweaking existing services

Even a X stanley service to go via Team Valley full length and then direct via A1 and Redheugh Bridge like the 91 could be beneficial sorry in the interest of passengers

I really like the river drive extension in theory - but weren't there bridge issues which caused them to divert the 10/11 route in Shields? At the moment though, coastal South Shields is split between various routes - the E1 clearly gets a lot of its traffic from people visiting the coast but can be a victim of its own success during nice weather and also runs via Horsley Hill rather than the coast road - having one designated route serving the entire coastline would be very appealing.

If the issue there can be resolved though you'd be in an excellent position because you'd get a direct link between the ferry and . To complement that, I'd be tempted to extend the 300 to North Shields Fish Quay and Ferry (though physical space at the ferry landing bus terminal may be an issue). That way there would be the potential to market the two together and promote the idea that you could take both to see both the North Tyneside coast and down into South Tyneside/Wearside, all for just £7.50 including travel to the coast, the full journey down from Whitley Bay to Seaham, and the ferry in between.

Obviously that extension would mean an additional vehicle needed for the 300, and ideally you'd want anything interacting with the ferry to go half hourly. I'd also be quite keen to see the route run a bit further north, if the demand is there... Seaton Sluice and South Beach in Blyth both get a fair few visitors on a nice day, and I think North Shields to Blyth would be doable in an hour. My gut feeling is the 300 is just a trial run to see how well received a summer seafront service is (after all there have been others in the past which didn't last long) and so if it returns then I imagine they'd tweak it in various ways.

Even a X stanley service to go via Team Valley  full length and then direct via A1 and Redheugh Bridge like the 91 could be beneficial sorry in the interest of passengers

imo if you're doing that you'd be better splitting the 93/94 (it's not a loop anyway) and sending it across the water to North Shields imo with the 307 doing the North Shields to Whitley Bay (it'd be horribly long otherwise).

For the Team Valley - Metrocentre links; you'd be better extending the 82 through imo - something like: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/54.89949...?entry=ttu

It does the same links without a horrid dog leg and opens a lot of links to Team Valley / Metrocentre from the South.

(7 hours ago)BoroLad wrote I really like the river drive extension in theory - but weren't there bridge issues which caused them to divert the 10/11 route in Shields? At the moment though, coastal South Shields is split between various routes - the E1 clearly gets a lot of its traffic from people visiting the coast but can be a victim of its own success during nice weather and also runs via Horsley Hill rather than the coast road - having one designated route serving the entire coastline would be very appealing.

If the issue there can be resolved though you'd be in an excellent position because you'd get a direct link between the ferry and . Honestly not sure about the bridge issue, is that the bridge that looks like a concrete Tyne Bridge?, i know when i was last over there the 10 and E1 were still serving that way, but that was June 2025, so could very well happened after that, that was my thinking also, the E1 and E2 (especially when it had the open toppers on) was very busy during the summer, and i thought surely South Tyneside and Sunderland could benefit from something like the 300, there could even be a tide saver which would include travel on the 300, 514, and Ferry
Kind Regards
