I don't want this thread to be click-bait for my flickr account, but I've taken photos for a few days now to build up a small library - to decide whether or not I should continue doing so. I take all of these with my S6 phone as I don't normally want to cart around a dSLR camera with me. 

I feel like continuing, but I know very little about photography. What do you think of the current content I'm producing? Are there any recurring issues I'm making? Which shots are the best so far?

Just had a look, think the best shots are the ones swinging into Eldon Square Bus Station are the best ones you've took. I personally would say it's best to take pretty much all photos in landscape rather than portrait, if possible try and get the bus without too many obstacles in the way of the bus. The quality of the photos taken on a mobile phone is unlikely to match what you can achieve with a DSLR camera anytime soon.

I would just like to say, that I am making these points as I want to help you improve the quality of your photos and photo taking. If you want to continue with your photos, that's your decision I feel. If you have any questions in regards to photography, do feel to ask.

Nowt wrong with using a capable camera phone - I've had worse digital cameras than my own OK one. And they do win over on portability. Of course, a lousy shot will always be lousy, no matter what you take it with. A professional photographer friend of mine used to take some amazing pics with a simple point and click camera.

Your best shots have a good clear view of the whole vehicle, well centred or balanced with the rest of the scenery and nothing in the way. These ones stand out for me:

Be aware of your light - this one is marred by the bus being in deep shade while the road in front is brightly sunlit, which is a shame.

And be aware of your verticals. Sometimes easier said than done, when all the lamp posts are wonky, like they are where I live, but look for the sides of buildings as a guide, as you can't always go by the angle of a bus because of the camber of the road.

Sneaky pics over walls and through bus station windows are great for a private archive, particularly of an odd working, but not really for a showcase.

Keep it up! The only way to learn is through practice. If you prefer using your S6 for now, then stick to it. I do like the location for your photo of 641 on the X70.

I'd suggest looking for areas that you aren't being hampered by parked vehicles and/or other street furniture. There's plenty of City Centre locations for that, if you want to move away from bus stations and such. The foot of Northumberland Street is good for getting photos of buses coming in via High Street West, and you've also got Market Street, Grainger Street and Newgate Street not too far away! 

I'd also look to pick an angle you like for photos, and try sticking to that for a bit. Gives you more to compare to, as you gain more experience in photography. Have you been to any rallies before? If not, try and get yourself along to Durham at the end of June and get some photos.

I do like it, however, I feel there is slightly too much brightness on the white of the bus. This is worsened by the white background of the building, which makes it quite hard to see one side of the bus on a dim monitor, like mine. But very good shot in terms of positioning!

When he's got used to keeping his lens clean. Mooted the idea after Saturday, since he got some nice pics despite the lens smudge, but he hasn't even got a working laptop at the moment, anyhow. The one he inherited off me fell apart, last week and is awaiting a new hinge. Husband has fixed the screen enclosure with superglue, mind.

Actually bought the S32 with his 11th birthday money, but the power management started to malfunction before it hit a year old. Called in our 2 year JL warranty and it ended up being replaced by the newer model. It doesn't take pics that much better than my Moto G but it's a lot more robust! This one has been dropped in at least one puddle and lived to tell the tale.

Regarding Flickr, do you actually need to have a Yahooo mail account before you can sign up for a Flickr account? Never signed up without one, so wouldn't know.

You do now, yes.

It allowed Google and Facebook registration at one time, but this was removed about a year or so ago now.
