RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
(03 Nov 2016, 11:36 pm)G-CPTN wrote Falling ridership - so increase the fares?  Dodgy

Is it because of the fall in the £ . . .

The comment from Tobyn Hughes is interesting and provides a little more analysis.

He said: “Metro patronage has seen a decline during the start of 2016/17; without further intervention, the forecast to the end of the year is 37.9m, which is 6% below the 2015/16 level. Various marketing initiatives, including Nexus’ support of the SnowDogs Trail are part of a package of measures to help address the reduction in patronage, especially leisure trips where the declines are most prevalent.

“Linked to this, whilst total Metro farebox is currently outperforming the 2015/16 level, it is below the budget that was established for this financial year. The current forecast is £43.5m which is 1.1% down against budget.”

There is a Metro service between St Peters and South Hylton it will be frequent but not to timetable.

From the Sort the metro page:

Hi guys, another update from me...

The Metro will NOT run the full route tomorrow but instead run another shuttle service from South Hylton to Sunderland (these trains will not return to the depot tonight) and the service 901 bus replacement will run all day in the affected area.

Trains will NOT be allowed to run on the line until 8am tomorrow, this includes Northern Rail (I think I seen a time below regarding the first train)

Metro are due to run a full service on Monday and Northern Rail have been approached by Network Rail to run extra services between Sunderland and Newcastle.

To fix the OLE issues is due to take 2 nights (tonight and Sunday night) possession starts at 0001 and as stated above will finish at 8am. Allowing diesel trains only to run.

Again sorry for the long message just wanting to keep you all updated as best as possible.

RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
Anyone know why the Metro Replacement is still running at 01:25 in the morning? Just had a Omnidekka pass my house in service.

Normally the last metro would be at 00:09 from my station ( Brockley Whins ) yet replacements are still running into the night.

Metro will sometimes request a bus does a final "swoop" through all stations rather than light to the depots, to ensure no one has been missed.

Taxis have been deployed to keep passengers moving after problems hit the Metro service. An obstruction on the overhead line has knocked out services between Park Lane and South Hylton, Metro said.

Six-seater taxis are operating a shuttle service to carry passengers as Metro engineers work to fix the problem during the busy rush hour period.

One of Newcastle's busiest roads is set to be closed and Metro services suspended while improvement works are carried out.

Major disruption is on the way for Newcastle’s Metro users and motorists

The city council is set to green light a multi-million pound programme which will see Killingworth Road in South Gosforth widened and the Metro bridge over it demolished and replaced.

Due to a problem with the overhead line there are no trains Pelaw - South Shields. Go North East are accepting Metro tickets on bus services number 27 from Heworth to South Shields. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

A year or so ago, there was a guy in London who ran between tube stations. He jumped off a tube and ran to the next station, getting on the same tube he had got off just moments earlier.

There's a video of a guy doing the same between Illford Road and South Gosforth.
It took 4 attempts, but he did it.

Dunno why, but after seeing the video it just doesn't seem as dramatic.

It is affecting the level crossing barriers too causing services 5 and 50A to be diverted.

The ironic thing, there, is that it would have been a lot faster for people travelling to Sunderland on Thursday to travel via either CLS or Washington, than wait for buses to Heworth then hope for some luck from there. Someone would have needed to direct them from market street to eldon square bus station, though.

I'm surprised Northern services havent been pushed more for journeys to/from Heworth and Sunderland. Ticket acceptance is mutual on a range of tickets already and although some services are often busy at is is, it would have taken the strain off the hired in buses.

Sad news on the metro tonight.. Post on the "sort the metro out" Facebook page.

It has been confirmed (4 minutes ago) that a train travelling between Heworth and Felling has hit a person. Service is suspended between Gateshead Stadium and Pelaw to allow the Emergency Services a safe working area.

Thoughts go out to all involved including the Driver, Public on the train and Emergency Service Personnel.

If you intend to travel between these areas I would suggest making alternative arrangements, Busses 27,57,58 & 93 accepting metro tickets between Pelaw and Gateshead.

I will update as and when I get suitable information.

Update from Tyne and Wear Metro..

Services have been suspended Gateshead Stadium - Pelaw due to a police incident.  Ticket acceptance on buses 27, 57, 58, 93 and we have requested for 2 replacement buses.
