Go North East's New Ex GAL Enviro 400's

RE: Go North East's New Ex GAL Enviro 400's
So there seems to be 23 Euro 6 E400 presumably mostly for schools, wonder if any would go to Percy Main.

Does anyone have the full list of contracts which GNE have won?

That is classed for 1 contract, so what about the other 59/60 buses going to use, atleast 50% probably are school routes, GNE are going to need A LOT more drivers.

It's a mega T advert. Stagecoach North East have a few buses with them - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...2198665993

Not all of the ex London E400s have them though.

Who needs heroes anyway? Villians have more fun.

Wonder if they'll conveniently turn up the day after MG leaves given his opinion on covering windows!

5236, it was repainted by Go-Ahead East Yorkshire for use by them as a Driver Trainer a few years ago before transferring back to Go North East within the last year or so.

They have a very similar look to the Go South Coast morebus livery, not at all like GNE standard livery.

The blue front only looks decent on ADL vehicles in my opinion

I thought they look very Morebus from the front too with the replacement panel vibe.

They probably should have painted in between the windows black to help hide it

(14 Jun 2022, 8:50 pm)ne14ne1 wrote Agreed. Even Stagecoach North East have done it on all their repaints and their vehicles look much better for it.

So although it does look like that first one had red window frames is seems all the ones photographed recently have black frames, thankfully.

Still seems werid GNE now following the other two companies

Stagecoach & Arriva have had ADL Enviro 400&400MMC for a while now and gne seems to have jumped on the trend

I’m pretty sure stagecoach has some sort of deal with ADL? They don’t have many wright vehicles at all.

I think it goes further - didn't/doesn't someone really high up in Stagecoach hold shares in ADL?

Thats it I think, I remember seeing something about a deal or shares but it’s not just a coincidence that most their vehicles are from them.

We’re nearing some of the last available diesel buses out of London - from 2012ish onwards, there was a big drive on hybrid buses, then electric.

Go North East have no intention of bringing further hybrids into their fleet, so it’s very much a case of take everything that’s available to reduce average fleet age and improve air quality (almost all diesel buses in London now are Euro 6).

Speaking of hybrids, I take it the plan to remove the hybrid systems from the B5Hs has been put on hold?

I wouldn’t expect GNE to convert the rest of them until the first one manages a week in service. To date, that hasn’t happened. It’s back down at East Yorkshire for further modifications at the moment.

I feel like with 6064 being off every other month since it came back, then since January its been off, however I believe there were some photos of it on a test drive I doubt it.

However I think something was said about Hybrids being allowed in newcastle was something that could be happening due to the amount which SC have

Would it be more expensive to convert them to fully electric? It’s a possibility and that would do some good for allocating around the CAZ

Given the cost of batteries, and the amount they'd need to give them a somewhat decent range, I reckon they'd be lucky to get change from £100k per bus for the conversion.
The StreetDeck Electroliner comes with a 340kWh or 450kWh battery, which would be around £50k or £70k for the battery alone. Then you've got the cost of the motor which would probably be another £10K, all the electronics to control it, the modifications to the chassis to handle the weight etc.

Plus, the problem with converting them to electric would be finding somewhere to put the batteries given the chassis wasn't designed for it.
Ideally they need to be spread evenly across the axles, and while the B5Hs do have the space at the front where the old batteries were (Lead acid I assume, so there's probably a fair bit of space), I doubt it would be enough to get any useable range out if it.
RE: Go North East's New Ex GAL Enviro 400's
Is there not any reason why they can't just keep them as a hybrid or send them elsewhere where there's no LEZ (if that's the reason why). Seems a waste of money and time converting 10 year old buses especially with the hassle they're going through. I'm sure there's enough 61 plate Enviro's leaving London soon enough they can get instead if they really need more buses.
