Wanna ask a question I've been wondering.
On the occasion when a 49/49A leaves Gateshead Interchange. They will turn left out the Interchange instead of turning right and going along Askew Road towards Redheugh Bridge
Reason the 1 is being mentioned as I was on the 1 leaving Gateshead today and it turned left and missed out Askew Road towards Redheugh.
I'm wondering why they do this or if any light can be shed on the reason
Down below is a screenshot of just one of the 1 journeys today that did this odd different route
Routes 1,49,49A out of Gateshead

Could it just be a case of a driver going the wrong way?
If Riverside drivers that don't know the route are on the X21, then it could be safe to assume ex-CLS drivers are on other routes as well

It is due to vandalism, we have had a few windows put out along Askew Road over the past couple of weeks.

Obviously citaro has mentioned the official reasons why, but back in the days prior to Centre link - Askew Road was often bypassed by the X66 in favour of that route the 1 took.
Whether it be traffic, vandalism or whatever else - drivers had the autonomy to make those decisions. Particularly as stops were never missed.
