Can anyone tell me why the 555/556 got withdrawn? And roughly when and who operated it?

I agree thst the Bygone section is the best place, but it does tend to be 55 years behind, in terms of recent postings . Bygone does seem an interesting place rather than reading about repaints etc etc etc etc etc
