I thought it might have just been because of the time this morning, but even the map on the website shows it going via Birtley now.

It's been shut this morning.

southbound at Dunston, so shouldn't affect anything heading north before getting into Gateshead

however I wouldn't be surprised if the impact down there was underreported, as traffic on the A19 southbound was queuing from the tunnel to Dudley Lane as a result of the closure but didn't hear anything about that.

Aye probably just playing safe as they didn't know what the closure was. Easier to say just go through both directions. The traffic seems to have been horrendous all over the place this morning mind.

Its been like that on bustimes for ages, and buses are still going via A1 today

The GNE website definitely wasn't showing it going via Birtley the other day, which is why i wasn't sure.

I knew the one I was on would probably go via Birtley as they have done in the past.

I was on the X21 the other day and when I was on it going down the A1 I saw 3-4 X21s Running Dead to Riverside, so I wondered whether there could be an option for the X21 to possibly make some money off it

X21A (or something) West Auckland - Bishop Auckland - Durham - A690 - Straight onto A1 then head to Gateshead then going NIS, it would stop some of the dead runs on an evening.

There are so many opportunities for things like this.
Genuinely don't know why those dead runs aren't utilised in a more efficient manner.

Just looking at some, when the 35 starts at Houghton you could do quick 20 to Houghton, 58 that start at Gateshead run as X58 from Follingsby, 39B Which starts from washington run as the 8A from Sunderland, 47's which start/finish at blackhall (that don't do a return trip) as you are basically going the same way, 60s which terminate at New Seaham, run it in service the way it goes to Parkside along Princess Road, 78s whcih start at Chester-Le-Street or Shiny Row run them as X78, where its basically stops 3 times, Consett, Stanley & Chester-Le-Street.

X21 you can do both Mornings and Evenings, 78s you can, 35s, 47, 58.
