RE: Vehicle Cascade 2026
  • SuperShuttles have arrived at Consett, as expected.
    • Their arrival has displaced 3 native StreetLite buses from Consett to Deptford.
  • Several ex-First StreetLites that were previously at Deptford have now moved to Riverside, joining the four already based there.
  • Vehicle 6161 has transferred from Consett to Deptford.

The Streetdecks moving across from the X1 appear to be allocated to the 47 & X5/X15

The Red Kite B9's are all off the road as of now, not sure if they have remained at Consett or have been displaced until they track.

Versas 8321 & 8324 are still both tracking at Percy Main for now.

6187 is still in service at Washington.

6945, 6947, 6950. 6952 are all still out service despite being earmarked for withdrawal.

(08 Mar 2026, 4:21 pm)Malarkey wrote No idea but my guess would be X5/X15/16/16A.

Then the X30's/X70's & 47 operated by E400MMC's and X45 with New Streetdecks.

Moved this from the other thread, not sure about the 16/16A personally.

I wouldn't be surprised it it's

E400MMC: X5/X15/X30's/X70's
E400 Classic: 16/16A/Schools
E200MMC: 78
Streetdeck: X45/47
Unsure: 6

Undecided whether all the Streetlite's will go, but there's enough Streetdeck's there to get rid of them all if they all come with the 6 becoming a mixed allocation with 3 Streetdeck's and the remaining 3 E200MMC's (when not needed for the 78).

Still 2 Red Kites floating about at Consett.
Seems 1 has made its way onto the 10's/.

And at least the X5/X15 have something decent

The Red Kite B9 (6046) I would think is a loan to Hexham as they did have a Green X-Lines E400MMC (6349) earlier in the week.

It's just a continuous downward spiral.

Do you know how many more buses are still to be withdrawn?

Mental how much the total fleet has dropped over the years.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

When I first started taking an active interest in the fleet, in about 2000, I think there were in the order of 750 vehicles .....

You'd hope so as the ex-First ones are some of the worst buses I've ever driven. They make our native ones seem quite nice in comparison.

Think of how many services 5-10 years ago were operating Every 7/8 or 10 Minutes that are now Every 15-20 Minutes. how many services are there that were every 30 minutes that have dropped to hourly or have gone altogether.

Then you have the variety the services that we used to have and the links they provided that are no longer due endless cuts to service.

The 26 is a good example of it, it was every 15 minutes as the 88/88A 9ish years ago. Now the section between Shields and Jarrow is hourly.

There's loads around really

GoNorthEast
342: 15 Minutes -> Subsidised Hourly (342)
315/316/325/326: 15 Minutes Combined -> Nothing bar short section on the 307
81/82: 15 Minutes -> Subsidised Hourly (82)

Arriva
442/810/811: 20 Minutes -> Nothing between North Shields and Whitley Bay
46: 15 Minutes -> Subsidised Hourly (X46)

Just a few off the top of my head.

Crusader 27 (Every 10 Minutes - Now (Every 15 Minutes)
Saltwell Park/Voltra 53/54 (Every 10 Minutes) - Dropped to (Every 12 Minutes) and then down to current frequency of (Every 15 Minutes)
FAB56/CityRider (Every 10 Minutes) - Recall this dropping to (Every 15 Minutes) before increasing to (Every 12 Minutes)
Citylink 58 (Every 10 Minutes) - Now (Every 15 Minutes)
Loop 93/94 (Every 15 Minutes) in each direction - Now (Every 20 Minutes)
Quaycity Q3 (Every 15 Minutes) - Now (Every 20 Minutes)

Aye there's loads, be interesting to do routes that have increased in frequency in the same time as I'm genuinely struggling to think of literally anything.

Is there actually a route...?

Only ones I can think of are Go North East 688 upto Allenheads and weekday 689’s. Newcastle-Jedburgh (131 replaced by X74) and Newcastle-Wooler (X16 vice 710). Although I’d argue the biggest increase in recent years although not specifically a route is the Teesside Park-Middlesbrough corridor which went from Saturday only to nothing to 10 buses an hour Monday-Saturday.

Some good shouts there, btw speaking down there hasn't the X66/X67 been doubled in frequency - it was only every 30 minutes wasn't it when it used the coaches - which was a silly allocation.

After being on 5410 the other day definitely not. Sounded like it was dropping to bits. Hard work travelling on Deptford routes atm with all the streetshit*s awful Sad
