RE: Tyne and Wear Metro
(Yesterday, 12:01 pm)Dan wrote Northstar were allocated five duties on the Airport line, and two on the Coast.

I understand ten buses were missing from the Coast - three additional buses were provided by Northstar at short-notice, and it seems Go North East eventually provided three too.

Three additional buses provided on a contract where Northstar were only required to provide five?

People on other contracted routes which Northstar operate might get a little jealous.

Well that should put GNE to the back of the queue next time round then, only choose them if no one else is available, but that probably won't be what Nexus do.

I had big problems with GNE on the December closure Regent Centre - Airport, meant to be every 15 minutes but waited 45 and then the driver had no knowledge of the route at all so we ended up getting lost in houses around Fawdon, though this wasn't the drivers fault, he was very polite and explained to all passengers he had been waiting at the depot over 20 minutes for a bus to be given to him and hadn't been told of the correct route, so I never reported it at the time as didn't want the driver to get the blame when he did his best. Then the way back was also a very long wait due to breakdown which the driver said he had reported problems earlier but had been told to carry on anyway until the bus eventually fully broke down.

Nexus should have been aware of these issues though as they had their customer support staff at Regent centre who said they had contacted control to advise of the long delays

Lucky you didn't see the ones in December
Gne were contract from Friday evening to Sunday. Gne didn't run the evening so Northstar were called onto it

During the day. Gne ran till about 2pm then it was down to 626, Northstar & City with the later evening journey due to 626 & Northstar mainly finshed duties the replacement was down to every 45 minutes

Gne had East Yorkshire drivers on hire as well and they didn't know the route.

Nexus also have the maps wrong in a lot of areas on the metro replacement. Two most noticeable ones are at the airport telling you to take the 2nd exit when entering the airport (which leads to the short stay car park & a low hanging sign as JH07 experience back in 2023) and on the 900 when travelling towards West Monkseaton (towards Shiremoor) tells you to "take the 2nd exit on the roundabout (turn right)" which has happened to a lot of drivers who dont know that section and follow the map given
