Arriva North East: Service Suggestions

Arriva North East: Service Suggestions

The first 840 from Whitby doesn't leave until 11:15, meaning a day out in York or Leeds is not really possible.  There's also limited journeys throughout the day and early finishes.

If Arriva used one bus from Whitby, and one from perhaps Selby depot, they could work something that gave an earlier departure and later last bus to/from Whitby.  They could run a similar route or make it a bit quicker, going to York & Leeds or even just York & Selby.

With the popularity of tourist travel to the coast, I'm surprised Arriva haven't considered something like this.

Think you’ve answered your own question there… the passenger flow is primarily towards the coast which Transdev cater for. The section between Whitby & Malton is council supported (possibly just in the winter) suggesting it’s not a goldmine.

Unless it's changed very recently, the 840 is barely commercially viable, as it is. It nearly got pulled a few year back.

RE: Arriva North East: Service Suggestions
As far as im aware there are currently no Arriva's in Sunderland , few ideas.
79-Replace Already existing route X1 to Doxford park but go A19 way and then turn left to go through Seaham way to Doxford.
21-Extended 20 Service across Hylton Grange Interchange up to Boldon ASDA.
X25-Kind of Like X24 but into Washington up into the Team Valley and into Newcastle.
X2- Express-Sunderland East End-Whitburn Rackly Way turning circle but would not run School Morning Times due to the Turning circle being right next to Whitburn Academy.
558A-558 Extended Into Sunderland Stockton Road Or Park Lane Interchange
A19-Follows A19 from Sunderland Park Lane Coach Station-Hartlepool Interchange (runs every hour)
S1-Sunderland Fawcett to Roker Marina.

Thats All

We have the 22 to Durham via the world but I do agree, we do need more Arriva routes in the area.
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.

Yes, but those passengers do need to return from the coast. An earlier departure from Whitby and tweaking the route would open up a possibility for new passengers too.

I’m just surprised they’ve never given it a go, same as they’ve never tried running south of Scarborough to serve the holiday parks or Bridlington in summer.
When the X94 was introduced some years ago, it was a success (albeit only a variation of the X93), but it does show its worth giving something new a try.

If the two bus companies run in similar services to this can barely make a profit how would creating duplicate services and splitting an already poor load be worth while to anyone?

Coastliner did used to run a few journeys per day from Malton to Filey & Bridlington (not serving Scarborough) as service 845 up until a few year back.

East Yorkshire also had service 45 from York to Bridlington a few year back but via Pocklington & Driffield.
RE: Arriva North East: Service Suggestions
Imo if your looking at buses to down Whitby way I'd be looking at restoring the X60 instead from Newcastle going the opposite way, even if it followed the X12 route via Durham.

If you were clever you could run it from one of the Northumbria depots and swap the E400MMC's around so they're not getting rattled on the X93/X94 24/7 and give them a longer life.

Would solve the issue for Stockton only being to do minor works on Decker's aswell.

Apart from the depots being on different licences meaning you’d have to have the vehicle with ‘on hire’ constantly - and the likelihood of there being any Arriva Northumbria depots in a few years time means it is pointless. Indeed, the reason the X60 and X61 were binned 14 years ago was down to them being pensioner expresses therefore too costly to operate.

Why won't there be any Arriva Northumbria depots? Reform councillors sound like they're plotting to destroy the Angel network plans from what I've heard locally. We'll probably have the same as we have now in 5 years time.
RE: Arriva North East: Service Suggestions
Why can't they merge all the former Northumbria & United related licences into just a single Arriva North East licence covering the full regional operation?

Aye no arguments on the pensioner side. To be honest didn't think it would make millions.

Btw genuine question is actually difficult to swap licences around? I actually don't know how it works, assume you'd just click a few buttons on a computer but dealing with other government systems wouldn't be surprised if it's a minefield either.

This is getting into East Yorkshire territory and Scabby to Brid is covered by the coaster 12 which connects the two towns, hourly.
RE: Arriva North East: Service Suggestions
Well theres already a 12/13 that pretty much do that route, so why is your 12/12A any different to that, also theres a reason Arriva dont run in South Tyneside
Kind Regards
