So my mother lives in Forest Hall and we frequently chat about the new housing being built near Palmersville, they appear to be also widening the road from the traffic lights (that take you into Forest Gate), which leads me to ask, i wonder if the new widened road and new housing development will be linked at both ends, one end taking you to Great Lime Road, and the other to the new roundabout thats been built on the B1317 before/after the bridge over the A19, it also poses the question of if that if that is the case, if there will be the need for a new bus link

Have a search for Killingworth Moor. 

If it's the one I think it is, it's all part of that. Quite a bit planned for it, including for a new bridge connecting towards Northumberland Park - unsure whether it's been binned that though.

Could be a bus from regent centre or four lane ends to this new housing estate ran with optare solo's or peugeot E7

Aye I haven't heard about the Metro station for awhile, same with Murton Gap - both gone a bit quiet lately.

Whoever mentioned routes, in an ideal would you'd probably just extend the 38 from Palmersville through to serve the bottom part and merge the X7/X63 into one bus route doing the other half. 

The X7 and X63 aren't both exactly gold star routes as it is in recent years and the Killingworth links would be appreciated; an express bus to Newcastle duplicating the train is borderline useless for a lot of people. This is assuming franchising is done first. Would probably be a strong little route and open some new links with a lower PVR.

Could probably rejig the 35*s also tbf, its gonna be quite the size for a development

Aye tbh was more just wishful thinking. There's only 2 bus routes around here and the X7 is borderline useless since the train does the same journey and there's zero incentive to use it.

I know over the years they've always blocked Killingworth as it would make the 57/57A unprofitable but under franchising it's just a moot point that really.

Be nice to have a bus to Killingworth, as it's a handy place to connect to buses to other places and it's a useful place in itself, supermarket etc.

Oh course, you're out in the sticks aren't you, i imagine its been quite a number of years since you had a connection to Killy, you'd think a new connection would be established for your area since neither the Metro or the Northumberland line serve Killingworth and there hasn't been a Killingworth Station on the ECML since the 1960's

The plan is to extend the 38. It will operate at 30 minute intervals and turn in a temporary turning circle in phase 1, increasing to a 15 minute service and operate in a loop (the purple highlight) with phase 2 of development.  The 19 will be diverted to serve the northern part of Killingworth Moor through a new A19 underpasswith a 15 minute service.

I might have missed this earlier in the thread, but do you have a link to the documents included for the Killingworth Moor development?

I can't help but think creating an underpass for a bus service between two housing estates is a bit overkill. Novel and progressive, sure, but we've all seen how bus improvement measures (such as the Wardley Bus Gate, Barmoor Hub, Centrelink...) are constructed with all the good will in the world; then are abandoned by operators when services are cut, withdrawn, need to save time etc. I feel this bus underpass, if built, will suffer a similar fate.

Had a feeling the 38 would've been the long term plan there. Just seemed the route to do it since it's ending at a random spot which just happens to be next to it.

Agreed tbh, quite long for people from the Northern side aswell (which arguably there's more demand as it's furthest from the Metro).

Agreed tbh, quite long for people from the Northern side aswell (which arguably there's more demand as it's furthest from the Metro).

Two of my friends who drive the 38 quite a bit say it's not the best of ideas, as alot of the time it gets caught up and end up running late, couple that with peak times also and its a nightmare

I see the 19 is being routed out of East Bailey which tbf is actually a good idea since the 354 & 356 currently do the same thing.

I wonder if the 19 from Cramlington will be routed through the bottom part of Killingworth Moor as it seems to link up to that road instead of following the back road

I will say this is amazing that they are working with people for bus routes since places like the two housing estates near alpha. Them two have 2 bus routes being the X7/X8 yet have nothing in the estate and its a hell of a walk to the bus stops that go nowhere unless you want to go to Newcastle or Cramlington/Blyth

See I think the 38 is too long winded like that.

Personally I'd move the 18/37/38/X7/X63 all around and create something like:


X7: Newcastle to Blyth via Killingworth (Every 30 Minutes)
37/38: Killingworth/Benton Loop (Every 20 Minutes Each)
18: Extended to Cramlington via Killingworth (Every 30 Minutes)

The X7 is useless right now, get it through Killingworth and support the X63 which doesn't seem to be a glory of success either in recent years; who knows maybe they could be every 20 minutes combined - even if you cut some short like in Seaton Delaval because the loads beyond it right now are dire (they've never been strong even before the train anyway). 

The rest is just creating new links since 37/X8 shadow each other so why not send it through to Walker/Byker instead and the 37/38 is just imo tidier and quicker to Killingworth with the X7 picking the Northern side.
