Places like Canada have it too.
They have had to lower their points system, as it was very restrictive.
I would like to think I have a decent education and my background is of a professional level, yet I wasn't too far off the minimum points total to get in.
Points systems don't stop Africans, Syrians and people from other middle east , far east and South/Central American nations, slipping in the back door though.
One of the prime nations, with citizens breaking visa rules in the UK - is Australia.

Aye, because of Schengen, there are practically no border crossings in mainland Europe. We are the only country to keep passport control. I am guessing our Island status, is one of the reasons.
Obviously you have airports in Europe, who still check id/passports - but road border controls are no more.
