Great review Marcus. I took a slightly similar approach.
Boarded 156481 on 2N12 (0900) from Haltwhistle to Prudhoe as a means of milking the Ranger I bought for today's jolly. Very good unit and soon enough I was at Prudhoe station, somewhere I still needed for 'shackage' (basically saying if you've boarded/alighted a train here before - on the Tyne Valley line I still need Brampton, Bardon Mill, Riding Mill, Stocksfield, Wylam and Blaydon).
Alighted here for a brief 10-min wait for 2N13 (0942) Prudhoe to Carlisle. I was going to get this train over from Haltwhistle anyway so I thought I might as well go a bit further for the same price/ticket! 142086 turned up, which was a pretty decent unit apart from me standing right next to the toilet for pretty much the whole 60min journey...
Got to Carlisle where I pottered around for a bit, going to Greggs (

Met one of my other friends here and we walked from the rail station to the bus station where we caught 47060 over to Lillyhall; being informed that it would be £1.40! I think it was free from Whitehaven up instead of Workington... Not to worry, got there on that little Solo (not great, not bad - I generally hate Stagecoach's MAN Solos) where we had a look around for an hour or so before I got bored so we boarded the 'Big Lemon' to Whitehaven.
Got another Greggs (
