When driving to Van Hee, I used to come along Sunderland Road, down Carlisle Street and onto William Street. The junction (onto Wiliiam Street) is not at an 90 degree angle coming down from Felling Metro, it's more like 120 degree allowing lorries to maneuver easily from that direction. Traffic from the Felling-by-pass, I think, mostly entered from the Stoneygate Lane slip-roads.

This is the bit I mean. Along Sunderland Road, turn onto Carlisle Street and over the Metro Bridge.
Apart from the 7.5t limit which has been there donkeys years (usually ignored), the road narrows as it crosses the bridge.
That is the section I can't get my head around.
Similarly, buses having to make the turn right from Sunderland Road onto Carlisle Street or left onto Sunderland Road from Carlisle Street.
Never mind. It obviously happened back in the midsts of time, before they were sent onto Stoneygate Lane instead.
