It refers to the company's accounting/financial year.

As we've discussed in the past, and I'm sure you'll remember, Go North East's financial year starts/ends in June. The year is split up into periods, just like a monthly calendar. Stagecoach have a set 4-week period. 13 Periods * 4 weeks = 52 weeks (1 year).

Stagecoach document all movements that take place in their 'periods', opposed to on a weekly basis like Go North East.
