Murton and Sunderland back then, weren't too many divisions apart in 88!
The World Cup would have been a massive step up!
The first time I saw Murton they were on there way to promotion to the Northern League 1st Division, Gretna were still an insignificant non-noteworthy team then who Murton pushed when Gretna won the Northern League
, as for Sunderland the first time I took notice of them, they were nowhere near close, Northern League didn't join the pyramid till 1991 
1990 was a great year for football, certainly on Wearside, Sunderland got promoted, Newcastle were less than happy about it, for those who were around in 1990 will know what I mean and the greatest England team since 1966 got together, we would have won the World Cup if it was not for bastard penalties
