One of my first memories of shopping in Gateshead high street was a mother pulling her boy's pants down so he could wee against the wall on the front of Iceland. And she can't have been the only one with that mentality because it usually smelt delightful on a hot summer's day. A bit like Peterlee, now, in fact.
