He's always had a thing for drawing maps, charts, plans etc but forward planning is a real weakness. He's rather impulsive and tends to want to jump straight into something without thinking about potential pitfalls before he starts. He also has a big aversion to using a ruler!
Realise that, with his mind (children notice detail that adults miss) he probably thinks (sorry - that should be knows) that the 'mess' is comprehendable.
He can decipher what you see as scribble.
If he is happy with his maps then why should they be redrawn so that adults can understand them?
As an engineer, the only way that I do drawing is with a ruler!
