I use Paper Based Timetables which I've collected over the past few months, along with using Simplygo.com and the NEB Bygone Era as sources for the Research behind my ideas.
I'll then draw up a thought into MS Word and then expand on it until I find the best combination for a New Service before sharing it here. Some ideas are rather straight forward and simplistic and some are absurd as you said, but they still work I guess depending on whether the Passenger Demand is there or not
In some cases I might spend an Hour or 2 minimum coming up with New Services, whereas others may take few days if I was looking at the East Durham or Venture Network and trying to improve that for example. As some areas i'm not to Familiar with. So using Google Maps also helps when doing Research.
