RE: Network Rail
Not sure where to put this but this was post on the skyscrapercity forum: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=985232&page=37 (near the bottom)

Thanks to DoxyLad for sharing:

I was sitting close by Julie Elliott MP on a Grand Central service to Kings Cross a couple of Mondays ago. I missed part of the conversation, but she was talking to another chap about the station development. It sounded as if the whole of the existing station footprint is to be redeveloped, including the block of buildings including Nationwide, Poundland and WH Smith. It also sounded like there was still several variations of the design, so they are still to agree on final design. "Completed before the Tall Ships arrive" was also mentioned.

I hope this goes ahead, its about time the area was sorted, everything but Burger King should be knocked down and re-built in to the new train station, a bit like central in Newcastle but over 2 floors...(bottom for trains) upstairs... shops etc................ Nationwide, i'm sure can find a empty building somewhere in Sunderland City Centre....

Reason to knock everything down from Nationwide to where WHS was:

Bigger station
Better facilities
Looks cleaner
Better units for shops
Open planned
Ooo Friend, Bus Friend.
