It has no standing in the party rules. Jeremy was democratically elected by the membership of the party, and MPs are more than aware that they could trigger a leadership election with 20% of the PLP nominating a candidate. However, they also know that a challenger is unlikely to be successful standing against Jeremy Corbyn, which is why they're trying to bully him out instead.
