Didn't GNE claim that 21A and 22 etc were too confusing for customers, hence the standard 21 number. I still think there's room to improve the 21, it still suffers from bad delays and bunching up. Short runs from Newcstle to Low Fell/Allerdene would help

Eldon Sq - Gateshead - Low Fell - Birtley - Ouston then direct to Beamish. (Basically a twist on the old 728 and 709 routes cut off at Beamish)
