By having it MAX means if not needed on the 685, it can be used elsewhere without people complaining that it is off-route. And if needed, it can cover on the X16 yes but it won't be branded for the X16.
According to a post on the UK Bus Fleetnews Yahoo group, 4664 is now at Bus & Coach World, Blackburn, for refurbishment.
