As someone who regularly uses Arriva's midibus network in South East Northumberland, I can't say I've had an issue with the quality of the interiors. Yes, it would be nice to see a retrim, but that's all they need, as well as a repaint, to be honest.
As for the Cadets, they were refurbished a few years back so are in good nick...
