Is there a reason they don't just run to a Sunday timetable like they do on a regular bank holiday?
I believe its a legacy agreement with most operators, possibly even stemming from something that existed pre-1986. But times change, and nobody can dispute Boxing Day and New Years Eve are the two biggest nights out of the year.
