Don't think anything in Hartlepool is subsidised (apart from the evening journeys on Arriva's 57a to Trimdon - but that's DCC funding not Hartlepool Council). To be honest, cutting Hartlepool's services down anymore would effectively bring the question of closing it down temporarily (as per what Go have done) and having their entire Tees Valley area output operate out of Stockton - considering as of today, Stockton is down to just 18 buses out and Hartlepool are running 15 on weekdays.

You are indeed right. Hartlepool Council withdrew subsidies on all services between 27th March -1st April 2010 and hasn't paid for a single bus journey since! Durham Council pay for much of the 57, 57A and 58 group of services on.
Maybe Stagecoach could temorarily extend the 36 to cover all of the 6's route. I dunno, just a silly thought.
