Sunderland council only care about filling their back pockets, and that's it.
You'd be surprised. There are still attractions in Sunderland that people visit. The Bridges is still a decent shopping centre compared to the shit hole of Peterlee where I live, which literally has three active units in one part of it.
Everywhere in the country has empty shops, and it's on the rise. You can't just cast the blame on the councils and the government though, because it's largely down to us, as consumers, who are responsible for destroying the high streets with our continuous move to more convenient online shopping. That's what is ruining the high streets and subsequently tourism as well.
