Possibly to recover delays because of late running like what happens with the ventures and bishop Auckland bus station. So a bus will go spare will go out and work the service and when the bus that should of worked the service arrives back it becomes the spare etc. etc. Or maybe they've replaced it after a round trip due to poor reliability on Stanley's fleet.
