GNE was always North Shields / Tynemouth and Wallsend with cross tunnel services from further afield connecting to their S. Tyneside network and pretty much all local services in North Tyneside.
Arriva was always Whitley Bay / Gosforth services plus the 306 and was mostly longer services and the Whitley locals.

Now it's a bit lost for GNE since they've pretty much abandoned most the local services and tunnel services with Stagecoach's 22 taking over Howdon so the few services they have left are mainly duplicates of Arriva services which they've always had.

It's a pity there are so few if any tunnel services left.  I twice used route 9 from Sunderland to North Shields, including once with an ex-Oxford dual-door Volvo B10BLE.
