All the 27X does is give parts of Hebburn back their direct links to Gateshead and Newcastle that they lost when the 27 went to every 10 minutes and the 27A was dropped. The only way it is an express is the fact it omits Gateshead interchange to save time (notice that the 27X gets 6 minutes to do Newcastle-Gateshead High Street where those service operating via the Interchange get 10 minutes).
