What I think they are marking is the commencement of the service between Blyth and North Shields run by Tynemouth and District. I remember it as service 7 which ran from Blyth to North Shields Ferry. When the Tyne Tunnel opened one bus an hour ran through to Sunderland as service 60 with Northern becoming the joint operator. Eventually it became the 309/310. The Cobalt and Coast is now the closest to the route they are celebrating 100 years even if it now takes a slightly different route in Blyth. As an enthusiast I am so pleased to see the livery again whichever route it is on.
