I think the trouble is that the Ticketer takes a few seconds to detect there's a card on the reader and change the 'issue ticket' button to 'take card payment', Stagecoach's (are they wayfarers?) seem to activate the card reader immediately, like the ones at most shops.
Go try and use a contact reader in a shop somewhere rural, they're a snails pace aswell.
