A funny layout or one the GNE commercial team can’t work out? I sympathise somewhat if you’re not from an area trying to work out the best bus route may not be easy, but it is the job of the team to do so.
The route around Murton currently works as they drop off/pick up passengers on the loop - now some of those loops are going to be little used as they’re only doing one or the other. How many folk are going to scan a pass on the 61 going the ‘right way’ expecting to go to the Top of Seaham, Ryhope or Sunderland but are actually going to end up in Easington Lane or South Hetton?
The suggestion on here that operating the reverse starting at Truro Avenue to Station Estate would be the best option. The only place missed would be Knaresbrough Road, which isn’t great. But the best solution GNE have is to ask passengers travelling through Murton, (perhaps South Hetton residents wanting to get to Sunderland) is to spend 20 minutes doing a loop of Murton only to end up back where they started 20 minutes ago? Yeah sounds great, really attractive bus route that - better than ever, I’ll buy a ticket.
