If anyone wants a laugh, you should see this attempt from cowboy op GRS Travel in the West Midlands, I'm sure one of the local enthusiasts said they used blackboard paint - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...0744198486
To be honest, I find grey liveries dull, I don't mind if it's a lighter metallic grey / silver like the current Cobalt Clipper livery. As a photographer of buses, I do find it more appealing to photo a bus that is well kept and smartly presented regardless of the liveries. I still photo the messy / bad stuff as variety is the spice of life, and sometimes you end up with a funny photograph or two.....
For example this Solo in Devon (which once ran in the North East with Veolia Durham) where the repanelling had gone terribly wrong - https://www.flickr.com/photos/gjm-photog...0719747847 - Just to add this was the bus that would take me from Totnes to Plymouth around every random village in between including driving through a beer garden of a pub because the village streets were so narrow.
This was the pub, the Ships Inn in the village of Ugborough - https://www.google.com/maps/@50.3866788,...312!8i6656
