Or maybe they've agreed to run it, at short notice, because the local authority hasn't sorted a tender out in adequate time? Why else would an operator run something for six weeks...

When it comes to bailing out, Nexus seem to need it themselves, more than most do.

Ticket acceptance should be in place to ensure that bus users are able to continue receiving value for money. The big three operators offer this through their commercial products, but Network One ticketing doesn't come close.

Whilst I'd personally like operators to continue to run these services commercially, they don't, and why should passengers lose out due to the lottery of a tendering exercise? The aim of a secured service isn't to make money- its to fill a vital gap in the market. Accepting third party tickets costs Nexus (or GCT) nothing.
