It gets close to a two hour route, and no one wants to be on a bus for two hours to Newcastle.
The 82 was more likely the bigger killer. The route came an absolute farce in the Birtley area during Covid to the stage it was unusable. Not everyone wants to go to Newcastle and if you drive to Washington / work then why bother using the bus at all.
People from the Waldridge Rd area are more likely to use the train as it's much quicker and is on their doorstep (around 200k people use it a year) and was often crush loads at peak times pre Covid.
