Another thing I can't understand is how come some operators are required to paint their vehicles into Nexus livery while others are allowed to use their normal fleet livery?

I believe Nexus livery was specified at one point and GNE, Arriva, Stanley Travel and GCT all obliged. Nowadays I don’t think it’s specified, and GCT adopted it as their fleet livery, at least in Tyne and Wear.
