Maybe something like this if a half hourly frequency could be sustained between Newcastle and Wallsend..........
- N1 - Newcastle - Byker - Walkergate A193 - Wallsend - then the Number 1 route to Whitley Bay
- N2 - As per N1 to High Street West then Station Road - High Farm - Battle Hill - Willington Square then 308 route to Whitley Bay
N2 would at least cover parts of the Metro, but also cover parts of the Coast Road services where taxis will likely be more pricey
