Current 51 route to Holystone, through the new estate up to Backworth, then 54 route to Whitley Bay. Means they can withdraw funding from two routes 51A/54 and plough it all into one, on a Sunday at least.

51: Newcastle to Whitley Bay as it is,
59: Whitley Bay to Backworth
W1: Withdrawn
Interwork the 51/59 together with a PVR 3 doing a loop around Backworth since the 51 is slightly too long for a PVR 2.
Sundays I'd probably be tempted to just extend the 19 to Killingworth and drop the rest of the route to hourly. It's a bit overkill every 30 minutes really and withdraw the 54, with the 51 running it's full route. Same buses, everything served really. Similar on evenings. Easy enough change at Northumberland Park for the few people in Backworth who use it and it's pathetic North Whitley Bay has no evening service atm.
