I'm sure the value of the contract to run that was enough to cover any losses from the network.
Sounds like a mix of the rail replacement and illness caused the issue yes from what I overheard the driver saying on the bus i was on yesterday when somebody was complaining.
Interestingly, from what I've heard, Arriva seem happy with how things are looking with regards to the train. It might have changed travel patterns, but the customers are still there apparently.
