When I worked at Arriva and went into Hartlepool, concessionary pass holders there could travel before 0900 for 30 or 40p. Hartlepool Council however, do not acknowledge or pay for, carers passes (concessionary plus 1). In that situation, the disabled passenger travels free but the carer must pay full adult fare (I can't comment on how many drivers enforce this but Arriva management wanted us to enforce it).
How (and why) would passengers bother checking the rules for each council (or issuing body for the pass) that they are travelling through for a national scheme is ridiculous.
Yup, heard plenty stories from ex-Arriva drivers who had people complain cos they used the +1 on the way there but it wouldn't work on the way back. Naturally, of course, like everything else it was the driver's fault.
