With Nexus, I had to swap my season ticket card to a PayG card, there was no flexibility at all.
Same with Go Ahead, when I wanted a Brighton & Hove key card years ago. They wouldn't allow me to sign up using the same email address as my GNE card, but then also wouldn't allow me to load Brighton products on to the GNE card. The workaround in the end was to use my work email address and to ask them not to reject it based on postal address.
You're right and ITSO is supposed to be a standard, but it still faces the stubbornness of humans in most places.
Can't say I'm surprised, at all, just causing more confusion for the sake of causing confusion - as usual.
I always think it's a shame the national scheme got scrapped. It's mental that every area has a different card all using the same system
Even more so now there's an existing API for fares in the Open Bus Data and rail can clearly work on the system aswell since POP (Northumberland Line) and a few of London train operators are using ITSO aswell.
