(12 Jun 2026, 10:10 pm)Malarkey wrote It's not possible with the way the roundabout at the bottom of Sunderland Road, Old Durham Road and Durham will be closed to facilitate demolition works of the flyover as I believe they will also be demolishing the 5 Footbridges that connects all the road for pedestrians which is why they've made it a one way loop. All other services that come down Old Durham Road are turning left at Shipcote Road/Shipcote Terrace then right onto Durham Road in order to avoid the roundabout.
It does make you wonder though could Gateshead Council of made a temporary road layout maintaining the connection between Sunderland Road and Durham Road as I did think they doing that last week when I passed on the bus as they were taking out the triangular island at the bottom of Old Durham Road.
The Old Durham Rd services are going down valley drive not Shipcote (which they did do during previous closures)
The whole area is set up as a worksite, there’s no way they could have maintained a link without impacting the pace of demolition
