It's all good saying you can fund an unprofitable system but if the Tories or even worse Reform get into power and they go onto Austerity round 2 you can guarantee this will be top of the list.
It's not like Nexus has a good record as it is as the Metro is a complete mess and has been for 20 year.
(Btw I generally agree 100% but let's not kid ourselves it won't be all about profit or keeping to a specific budget before long and the cuts will return aka what's happening with TFL right now)
Because rather than Go North East taking the massive profits from the 21 and giving it directly to it's owners, it'll be reinvested in the bus network to pay for the smaller routes. Copy and Paste for the other operators and their profit making routes, especially Stagecoach's in Newcastle and Sunderland.
