As the initial poll for this thread dominates the page, the time has now probably come to discuss which team has been the best in the North East in 2013-14.
For me, there's only two contenders:
Gateshead for their success in the Conference and ascent on Wembley and, hopefully, the Football League through the Play-Off's.
And Sunderland for their memorable cup-run(s) and miraculous escape from what looked like certain relegation.
Any other notable mentions?
Gateshead without a doubt.
To turn their form around following a poor 12/13 and a bad start to 13/14 and to end up where they have done - takes some doing.
I don't get all the fuss over Sunderland though.
Over the season, they have been shocking and apart from a few one off cup games and this little run towards the end, they haven't impressed me at all.
As for this Premier League season being one of the best - not sure.
Maybe it is because of my disillusionment as a Newcastle supporter; not seeing them live for the first time in too many years and preferring the honesty, commitment and blood & thunder of lower league and kids football - who knows.
