The Enviro was heading down past Batleys (presumably from the depot) marked 452 Scholars service.
When this run ends, it more than likely runs onto a 968 (not much dead mileage) - meaning the 23 may not interwork at all with them.
Stanley's bus on the 23 today was Alexander Dennis MPD OO05 STX, so more or less confirms what you're saying
