Knowing how good they are, I would have thought replacing the less reliable deckers in the fleet would have been a priority over a handful of reliable step-entrance ones
I was in a car following 4985 this morning, was amused by the 'Cleaner Engines, Cleaner air' sticker which was barely readable thanks to some hefty exhaust fumes coming out of the rear.
Whatever the 28 group ends up with will decrease the life span because its such a punishing route and it's even worse now. During the early days of the Omnicities they were on the 709/728 for a few weeks and seriously struggled once they left Durham Road and headed up towards Ouston and onto Beamish.
